Leading the day was an Express Dairy Company jug offered together with another smaller jug and a cup and saucer. The jug, which measured 33/4in (9cm), bore a black
transfer print showing a steam locomotive and the words Express Dairy Company Limited Established 1864/College Farm, Finchley. As a rare piece in reasonably good condition, it took £370.
The relatively few bits of Cornish-ware were eagerly snapped up by collectors. A 31/2in (9cm) high herb jar with the classic blue and white bands took £360 and a small sago jar of 5in (13cm) high with the Green & Co. Ltd. Gresley Church, mark to the base brought £350. Best of the pie funnels was a 23/4in (7cm) tall white pottery Bournemouth Grimwade example with a green transfer to the front and back. An extremely rare example, it sold at £240.

Express Dairy delivers the cream
SOME of the regular buyers at this 424-lot dispersal at BBR Auctions on 28 April deemed it the “best selection yet” even though it had fewer Prattware pot lids and less blue and white Cornishware than usual. But this was made up for with an unusually large number of pie funnels and a good range of kitchen utensils and cream pots.
