His latest initiative involves a move to Spain so he has decided to his sell his stock and private collection from his design business on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam through Sotheby’s.
The sale of some 450-plus lots, to be held next week on September 17, will include the Keizersgracht building’s antique and modern furnishings including a selection of Brinkman’s own designs and it will be displayed in room settings in the auctioneers’ Amsterdam rooms from this Thursday. Described as a decorator’s dream, prospective buyers can expect a distinctive mix of contemporary and antique that ranges from ancient Egyptian and Roman sculpture through Chinese ceramics, Italian baroque giltwood and 18th century walnut furniture to abstract canvases and Brinkman’s own very contemporary lighting.

Dutch designer and architect Anne Paul Brinkman is a well known name in interior decorating circles. He opened his first Antiek Curiosa shop in 1972 at the tender age of 15 and over the next 30 years established himself as the creator of what he terms Gesamtkunstwerke – total interiors combining architecture, antique and modern works of art with a sympathy for the original surroundings.
