This ivory figure, right, signed J. Trumptheller entered from a local deceased estate triggered bidding on four phone lines before selling to a French bidder at £1400.

Art Deco is even more sought after than Nouveau at present and it was a Deco piece which led the silver – a four-piece coffee set by Mappin & Webb, 1936, which took £800.

Best of the items in the furniture section was a Regency mahogany and brass inlaid pianoforte marked Phillips, London which sold to the specialist trade at £1250.
