Tatton Park is one of the most popular National Trust properties and attracts crowds of well-heeled visitors from one of the wealthiest hinterlands in the country.
Luckily for the Essex organiser and his 50 or so exhibitors, they shop at Tatton Park and last January this fair got the year off to a cracking start with some dealers enjoying business that was not to be repeated over the next 12 months.
Certainly Sussex silver dealer Nicholas Shaw had one of his best fairs of the year at Tatton Park and naturally hopes to repeat the success this time around.
He will be joined by other well-known specialists from the quality circuit, among them Haynes Fine Art, William Cook, Sheldon Shapiro, The Old Malthouse, and making their debut Sussex bronze dealers Hickmet.
Robert Bailey has geared up his marketing for this year’s fair so the omens look good. He also tells me he is in particular “aiming to attract the younger and more successful visitor in the higher income bracket.” But on that point, of course, so is everyone else. Admission is £5.

THE first quality fair of 2003 is one of Robert Bailey’s strongest events, the 11th Cheshire New Year Antiques and Fine Art Fair at Tatton Park, Knutsford, Cheshire. It runs from January 3 to 5.
