A Victorian officer’s lance cap of the 9th (Queen’s Royal) Lancers, consigned by a private vendor, it had a skull and top of black patent leather and sides of blue cloth and was in generally good condition despite some minor damage to the chinchain backing.
With a velvet backed corded link chin chain, lion’s head bosses and a silver and gilt plated rayed plate, the helmet had a flamboyant black over white feather plume in its socket. Expected to take around £3000 it brought £3500 from a private buyer.
