Sotheby’s will begin with the second part of the Library of Charles Hayoit over three days from November 29-December 1. It will be held in conjunction with the Paris étude Poulain le Fur with whom they jointly sold the first part of the Hayoit Library in June, but this time it will be at Sotheby’s Galerie Charpentier on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. They follow this with a sale of European silver, furniture and objects on December 18.
Christie’s have announced a programme of sales to run from December 5-13 at their Avenue Matignon rooms, featuring material from four private collections. December 5 & 6 sees the Charles-Otto Zieseniss collection of furniture, paintings, bronzes and French porcelain. On December 7 they will sell silver, French furniture, tapestries, works of art and the Marthe Couvelaire collection of Japanese lacquer and on the 11th, books and prints including the 7th part of the Giannalisa Feltrinelli library. December 13 sees Karl Lagerfield’s collection of decorative arts and jewellery on sale. The other two firms to receive approval from the Conseil at the same time are Francis Briest Maison de Ventes and the Hotel des Ventes Nice Riviera.
Paris auctions open up at last
FRANCE: After a long and frustrating delay, Sotheby’s and Christie’s finally got the official go-ahead late last week to conduct auctions in France. They were among the first four auction houses to receive a licence from the French Conseil des Ventes on October 25 and both houses swiftly announced details of their inaugural sales to be held later this year.
