The local vendors were totally unaware of the value of the c.1725 tankard which was offered for sale on September 25 at the Hungerford rooms of Law Fine Art.
Some damage saw it estimated at £1500-2500 but after a fierce bidding battle the tankard fell to a London dealer against American, Italian and Irish interest for £26,000 (plus 15% buyer’s premium).
