Since his appointment in 1993, Mr Hord, pictured right, has played a leading role in raising the profile of the trade while promoting the interests of his members and dealers as a whole. Among other achievements, he most recently championed the cause of the trade in amending the controversial Kent County Council Act. He has also kept LAPADA at the forefront of progress, initiating the association’s Website – the first of its kind from an art and antiques association – which currently receives more than half a million visits a year from 71 countries.
Lord Howe, chairman of LAPADA, said: “Malcolm has been untiring in his efforts to support the trade in general and LAPADA members in particular. He has introduced many new initiatives for the benefit of members, was instrumental in setting up the British Art Market Federation, which has proved an invaluable united voice for the trade in Westminster and Brussels, and led us to join CINOA, the international association for dealers.
“The Board of LAPADA is hugely indebted to Malcolm for all that he has done. I will, personally, miss working with him and wish him and his wife every happiness in retirement. I look forward to forging a new relationship with his successor next year.”
That successor has yet to be appointed.
Malcolm Hord to retire
MALCOLM HORD has announced that he is to retire as chief executive of LAPADA, the Association of Art and Antique Dealers, at the end of May next year.
