Sold for $65,000 (£44,830) was an exceptional copy, bound in contemporary red morocco gilt, of Hevelius’ acclaimed study of comets, published in Danzig in 1668 as Cometographia. This was an ex-John Rylands Library copy that in 1988 Sotheby’s London sale of duplicates made £5800.
