It was still too early to see if the American buyers would be out in force – they are expected later this week for Grosvenor House – but there was some serious buying among US and UK collectors.
As at so many quality fairs in the past couple of years, it was the expensive and unusual items which were moving fastest. However, opening day being Election Day was hardly conducive to a brisk start so exhibitors feel for once this Olympia cannot be judged in any way by the opening session.

THIS year’s Summer Fine Art and Antiques Fair opened at Olympia last Thursday with the 400 or so exhibitors in a very subdued mood. However, by the end of the first day much serious business had been achieved.
