The exhibition gathers together examples of this genre of meticulous small paintings by 50 different artists, including Frans Hals, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Salomon van Ruysdael and Jacob van Ruisdael, as well as lesser known artists of the period.
The pictures have been loaned from a large number of museums and galleries and are being grouped for display according to the collector who originally owned them.
Information on the background of these collectors appears in the illustrated catalogue which has been prepared by Christopher Wright.
