The Travelling Auctioneers: new TV show starts this week

A new antiques TV show featuring auctioneer Christina Trevanion and restoration expert Will Kirk begins on BBC daytime this week.

The Travelling Auctioneers is airing every weekday for three weeks. The pair take their bespoke mobile auction house and workshop out on the road around the UK. On their travels they discover hidden gems and turn unwanted items into winning lots - with one lucky couple making more than £9,000 in the series.

Sifting through one family home at a time, they identify items that could have the biggest selling appeal as Kirk restores neglected treasures - ready for an on-site auction at the end of each episode. Online bidding takes place via thesaleroom.com.

Kirk, who appears on Bafta-nominated TV show The Repair Shop, says: "When a lot of people hear the word 'antique' they think it applies only to people who have large country estates and lots of money. The Travelling Auctioneers shows us that we’ve all got items lurking around the house or in our garages that with just a little bit of attention and repair have the potential for a new lease of life."

Trevanion adds: "Sustainability is so important. As we know our world does not have endless resources, and all of us need to try to protect natural resources in any way we can. Buying and re-using antiques reduces landfill and reduces the consumption of new goods sourced from outside of the UK. Less freight means fewer carbon emissions, which can only be a good thing."

The show is on BBC One at 4.30pm from October 31, with episodes also available on BBC iPlayer.
