Bid at these auctions to mark International Women’s Day including a special charity sale
28 February 2022 Dreweatts of Newbury is holding a special charity auction to mark International Women’s Day (March 8th), the annual global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
Blue Flowers by self-taught painter Hepzibah Swinford is offered at Dreweatts’ Art on a Postcard timed online auction ending March 15, where bidding starts at £50. Now in its third year, Art on a Postcard features works by more than 200 artists, who have created postcard-sized masterpieces at estimates from £50. The timed online auction ends March 15 and proceeds go to The Hepatitis C Trust.

It bears the maker’s mark Scott & Co, Hatters to the King and the Royal Family, and is offered without its chinstrap with an estimate of £30-40. Philadelphia-born Hannah Whitall Smith (1832-1911) was an evangelist and religious writer was active in the women’s suffrage movement and temperance movement (which often went hand in hand). This pastel portrait of her by William Rothenstein from 1893 goes under the hammer at Dominic Winter Auctions in Cirencester on March 9 with an estimate of £200-300.
