Spain – giltwood frames
This pair of Spanish polychrome giltwood frames has an estimate of £1500-2500 at Dreweatts’ auction of Fine Furniture, Sculpture, Carpets and Works of Art.
From Spain comes a pair of Spanish giltwood framed mirrors overlaid with carved reliefs of St Lawrence and St Michael. Made in the 18th century, they feature shaped arch tops and polychrome decorations. They are offered with an estimate of £1500-2500.

Sweden - cabinet bookcase
This Swedish cabinet bookcase is offered with an estimate of £1500-2000 at Dreweatts’ auction of Fine Furniture, Sculpture, Carpets and Works of Art.
In the early 18th century Swedish cabinet makers in the region around Mälardalen started veneering furniture in Alder root as seen on this miniature bookcase.
Influenced by English tastes of the period the use of this timber was an attempt to mimic the figured walnut popular in London at the time, which was scarce in Sweden.

The Netherlands – Delftware garniture
Decorated with urns and vases issuing flowering shrubs, this five-piece 18th century Dutch Delft polychrome garniture is from the late 19th century and has an estimate of £2000-3000.

China – reverse painted mirror
A pair of reverse painted mirrors (one shown here) has an estimate of £20,000-30,000 at Dreweatts’ auction of Fine Furniture, Sculpture, Carpets and Works of Art.
Made in China to appeal to Western buyers, a pair of reverse painted mirrors from the third quarter of the 18th century are on offer at Dreweatts. In a later carved giltwood frame, in George III style, the mirror plate depicts figures in traditional dress and various animals, with a hilly river landscape beyond.

Italy – Venetian devil
This Venetian devil figure has an estimate of £8000-10,000 at Dreweatts’ auction of Fine Furniture, Sculpture, Carpets and Works of Art.
From Italy comes this Venetian carved pine and fruitwood life-size devil figure, which is attributed to Francesco Toso (d.1893). It is estimated at £8000-10,000.

India – Palampore
This south Indian Palampore has an estimate of £2000-3000 at Dreweatts’ auction of Fine Furniture, Sculpture, Carpets and Works of Art.
Finally this Palampore or bed cover, comes from South India. Block printed and dyed decoration of a central flowering tree issues from naturalistic rocky ground. It also features a floral border and faint bale mark for the British East India Company. It is estimated at £2000-3000.
