Now we have an update from Toby Hall, 23, who set up his own auction house when he was just 19.
He is managing director and head auctioneer at his firm Leighton Hall Auctions in Staffordshire.
The three-year old business has two full-time staff (including Hall) with up to 10 part-timers/ consultants regularly working with him (including administrators, specialist valuers and porters).
Hall has had experience in auctions since he was just 14. He became an auction clerk when he left school and counts Bonhams among the firms he worked for.
He started his own business as an online-only affair, run from a “cold brick barn on my parents’ farm in rural Staffordshire” which has since grown and relocated.
Toby Hall launched his own auction house at the age of 19.
Larger premises
The firm recently moved to a bigger saleroom premises hosting physical valuation days alongside online-only monthly general sales and select specialist sales just outside the market town of Stone.
Hall says: “I have genuinely built this business on my own and not taken over a family firm.”
