So Last Century Vintage Fairs organises London fairs in Catford, Beckenham, University of London and Peckham, which all have plenty of vintage lighting for sale.

Alan Old from the firm says: “I suspect people are starting to turn their backs on bland, general lighting like recessed downlights in their homes in favour of decorative lighting.

“The 1960s standard lamps, or floorlights, are very popular at our shows along with desk and table lamps which customers position to create a more intimate feel.”

As previously mentioned in this column, Old is launching his first Vintage Interiors Show at the Heritage and Arts Centre (HAC) near Mile End Road in east London on Saturday, March 2. It will feature around 30 dealers selling Mid-century furniture, vintage lighting of course, furnishings, art and decorative pieces.

The venue is the 19th century Grade II-Listed former Holy Trinity Church, which was an interior catwalk backdrop during London Fashion Week last year. It has, says Old, “glorious natural light, soaring columns and distressed plaster columns, the perfect setting for our traders to display their stock”.

The next of the organiser’s fairs is at St Dunstans College, Catford, on Saturday and Sunday, February 10-11.
