Design Museum

The Design Museum in London is run as a registered charity, and holds exhibitions which cover architecture, graphic art, fashion and industrial designs. 

The Design Museum was founded in 1989 in London and was located in a 1940s banana warehouse on the South Bank of the River Thames. In 2011 £17.5 million was donated to enable the museum to move to High Street Kensington, West London.

Design Museum moves west to Kensington

The Design Museum has relocated to Kensington in west London and reopened after a £83m redevelopment of the 1960s Grade II* listed modernist building. Its new home is in the former Commonwealth Institute, originally a ground breaking mid-century design which opened in 1962.

The Design Museum will be reopening at its new site in London on November 24. It had originally been thought that the relaunch would be in the summer.

The Design Museum will scrap entry charges for its permanent collection when it relocates from Bermondsey in South London over to the west of the capital in Kensington.
