White Relief, 1965 by Ben Nicholson, $11,000 (£8700) at Wright.
Nicholson was heavily influenced by the geometry of Mondrian, whose studio he had visited in 1933.
Three decades later, in the late 1960s, a series of replicas were made based on White Relief(1935), an original work in the Tate Gallery, London.
They were produced in an edition of around 50 by the West End Engraving Company.
It was one of these, White Relief in painted and carved wood, that was offered by Wright (26/20% buyer’s premium) in Chicago on February 1.
Estimated at $2000-3000, it hammered for $11,000 (£8700).
