Turning professional, she has since won several prizes at the Royal Academy Schools, as well as at the New English Art Club.
Only a handful of her paintings have ever appeared at auction but a group of 18 pictures came to Mallams’ (25% buyer's premium) Oxford Library sale on September 20. They were offered alongside a number of objects she collected over the years as well as two of her easels that fetched £500 and £80 respectively.
Although a self-portrait painted in an unusual vertical format sold below estimate at just £190, stronger competition came for a painting of a seated girl with a Chinese bottle vase.
The 2ft 5in x 2ft 2in (75 x 66cm) oil on canvas surpassed a £200-400 pitch to take £1600, the highest price among the works by Bond at the Oxford sale. Only a couple of works by the artist have ever made more at auction according to Artprice.com.
In all, 13 of the 18 pictures at Mallams sold for a hammer total of £4610.
