A single-owner collection of oils and watercolours was offered at Plymouth Auction Rooms (20% buyer’s premium) in Devon on September 11. The seven works, covering a range of subjects from street scenes to still lives, generated decent competition with every lot getting away to total around £11,000.
The most desirable was a vibrant 19 x 23in (49 x 60cm) still life of a vase of flowers on a table from the 1990s. Estimated at £1000-1500, it was knocked down at £5100 to a buyer based in Florida who beat a bidder in the room and two phone lines to secure it.
Other highlights included The Accordion Player, which sold for £2200 (£1500-2000 estimate) and St Just Chapel, Cornwall (1987), which came from a separate source and sold for £1300 (£1000-1500).
