While there will be pictures priced into five figures, the general thrust is to offer affordable work and prices start at around £30.

A point of interest will be works by Boscastle artist Raymund Rogers, who rescued his canvases moments before his gallery was destroyed in the flood which devastated the North Cornwall village of Boscastle last August. His paintings will be offered by Amanda Johnson of The John Noott Galleries, Broadway, who joins such other well-known regulars as Manya Igel, Bourne Gallery, Panter & Hall and The Priory Gallery.

Eleven galleries join the fair this year, among them the Baillie Gallery, Bevan Fine Arts and the Pond Gallery, all from London; The Hayloft Gallery from Derbyshire and Shirley Crowther Contemporary from Ditchling, East Sussex.

Admission is £4 and £10 on the door for the April 20 evening preview.

rightThis Russian watercolour of the interior of a room in the Imperial Palace, St Petersburg, was painted c.1900 by Alexander Benois, an accomplished Russian artist and stage designer who was grandfather to Sir Peter Ustinov.

It was acquired by the film actress Kay Kendall who gave it to her friend film star Dirk Bogarde, with whom she appeared in the popular 1950s Doctor in the House films. Bogarde in turn passed the picture on to his close friend, London art dealer Nicholas Bowlby, who will offer it at Chelsea for around £10,000.
