Penman Antiques Fairs propose a new style of fair for the London spring season and, although vetted, it will be a more affordable and less high-end event than their flagship fixture, The Chelsea Antiques Fair, held there every September.
The organiser told the Antiques Trade Gazette: “Recent trends in the antiques and fine art market indicate that younger buyers are looking for reasonably priced, good quality, practical and stylish furniture. As a new fair, The King’s Road Antiques Fair can be designed to match these needs.”
New faces
With stand prices starting at £450, Mrs Penman initially offered spaces to regular exhibit-ors, although she is also anxious to introduce some new faces.
There will be around 60 stands and by the middle of last week she had sold them all. “It seems we have hit a spot and found the formula that appeals to our exhibitors – short, efficient and economic, without dateline or loss of quality,” she said.
The new fair is at the same time as the established upmarket BADA fair in a marquee nearer Sloane Square and adopts the slot vacated by Mrs Penman’s old Spring Chelsea Antiques Fair, which she abandoned this year.
With talk that the BADA event might have to relocate, Mrs Penman’s new event is a useful holding operation for retaining a March slot at her favourite venue.
Penman to launch new Chelsea fair aimed at young buyers
NEXT spring Caroline Penman launches a new fair at Chelsea Old Town Hall in King’s Road, London SW3. It will be called The King’s Road Antiques Fair and will run from March 11 to 13.
