The event takes place at Nightingale House in Clapham, organised by 'hat queen' Joy Meier, a fundraiser for the Nightingale Hammerson Jewish Care Homes, and it looks set to be very busy on Sunday, June 29.
There are roaming musicians, including classical jazz guitarist Jamie Moore, an opera and jazz afternoon concert, Punch and Judy and a magician as alternatives, and around 15 hand-picked antiques and vintage dealers selling jewellery, silver, gardenalia, '40s/'50s French kitchenware, small furniture and vintage clothes and textiles.
Another plus is that one of the dealers will be Joy herself - despite being retired from dealing - after I have persuaded her to take a stand selling some of the vintage hats for which she was renowned at the main London vintage fashion fairs, where sharp elbows were needed to get to her busy stand as buyers jostled to buy.
Her headgear was once memorably described by milliner Philip Treacey as "wearing a party on your head".
Joy's mother is a resident at the Nightingale Hammerson homes, whose existence dates to the mid 19th century. Nightingale House, once called the Widows Home Asylum and the Hand in Hand Asylum, were in Hackney and they merged in the late 1870s to become the Home for Aged Jews, moving to Clapham in the early 1900s. Hammerson House is in Hampstead.
The Festival of Music with Antiques takes place indoors and outside under canvas at 105 Nightingale Lane, London SW12.
