This image of a young girl cradling a piece of wood for a doll by Cuban photographer Alerberto Korda is believed to have been his favourite claims his daughter, Norka Korda who has consigned a group of fifty-five photographs by her father to Dominic Winter’s sale on March 7 in South Cerney, near Cirencester.
Its indictment of rural Cuban poverty was the turning point in
Korda's career and saw him leave behind the frivolous delights of
fashion photography to devote himself to the causes of the
Revolution.
Signed and blind-stamped by the photographer, the 14 x 10in (35
x 25 cm) vintage gelatin silver print is estimated at
£2000-2500.
