Mallams’ Gentleman’s Library Sale in Oxford on October 31 will be the first to benefit from a new the-saleroom.com delivery service.
Bidders who buy online at this sale will
have the option of having their purchases professionally packed and
delivered according to a set range of fees.
The cost of shipping all eligible items will
be clearly indicated in advance in the online catalogue and buyers
will be emailed immediately after the sale to allow them to take
advantage of the scheme.
Prices for delivery start at £20 with
discounts offered for multiple deliveries to the same address. The
cost will be quoted in four different price bands according to
size, but large pieces of furniture, firearms or any lot containing
hazardous materials will not be included. Items can be delivered in
the UK, Europe and the USA and the cost of carriage (including
discount on delivery for multiple purchases) can be calculated
instantly online.
"We are aware that many bidders can be put off by uncertainty
over the delivery of their lots. This new scheme means that they
will know in advance exactly how much it will cost. Following this
pilot project it is our intention to make the facility available to
auctioneers throughout the UK," said Richard Lewis, COO of ATG
