Silver ostrich raises its head at Blythe Road sale

08 November 2012Written by ATG Reporter

This 19th century silver ostrich made in Hanau is among the highlights of Matthew Barton’s auction offering silver, ceramics and jewellery at London’s Blythe Road on November 20.

The 16in (41cm) German centrepiece is based on 16th century examples made by the German Guild Companies and bears a close resemblance to one sold in the Christie's auction of items belonging to Yves Saint Laurent in February 2009.

Estimate £3000-5000.
