Russian collection in Rye

21 December 2012Written by ATG Reporter

A large 200-lot Russian consignment of items from the InterContinental Hotel in Prague is estimated to fetch around £350,000 at Rye Auction Galleries in East Sussex on January 4.

According to the auction house, these items were seized by the Soviets from noble Russian houses and placed in the hotel, which was built in the early 1970s.

A highlight is this mid-19th century richly inlaid secretaire writing desk and cupboard measuring 7ft 3in x 4ft 2in (2.21 x 1.27m) and estimated at £8000-10,000.

Proceeds from the sale will return to Russia.
