The attractive floral and foliate decorated Carolean silver dish shown top was one of the top lots in a two-day auction of silver and jewellery held on January 3-4, selling for £3800.
Fully marked to the rim Simon Romney, London 1663 and with initials and the date 1668 to the centre, and handle for it weighs approximately 196gm or 6oz.
The auction also included a local, Exeter-hallmarked, early provincial flat ended spoon which was dated 1668 and took £1000.
The following month a two-day sale devoted to silver, watches and coins held from February 7-8 included another piece of Carolean silver: this 17th century covered porringer marked for London 1679, possibly by Robert Cooper and engraved with an armorial to the centre. It sold for £4250.
