Snyder’s appointment establishes a permanent presence in New York for Colnaghi’s Modern and Contemporary art department. She will also spearhead initiatives to promote the gallery’s international work, including exhibition curation, international art fair participation, and expansion of the firm’s online presence.

Snyder joins Colnaghi after 12 years at Sotheby’s where she served as vice president for business development, global fine arts, advising private clients on appraisals, consignments, purchases through auction and private sales.

She said: “The gallery’s 250-year history and its reputation as a leader in collecting and dealing across mediums, disciplines, and periods in art history have together secured its place not just as a gallery, but as an art and art world institution, and I look forward to amplifying that focus in the interest of helping clients bring breadth and depth to their collecting interests.”

Book dealership Peter Harrington has welcomed Dr Philip Errington as senior rare books specialist. He has a focus on children’s books and manuscripts and previously worked at Sotheby’s as a director.

During his time at Sotheby’s Errington was involved with the auction of JK Rowling’s manuscript of The Tales of Beedle the Bard which sold in 2007 for £1.95m, and in 2013 achieved a world-record £150,000 for a first-edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone annotated by the author.

He has worked with famous children’s authors and illustrators including Rowling, Quentin Blake, Judith Kerr and Richard Adams.
