It was reported a week ago that Harborough District Council objected to the sale of nine paintings on the grounds that they formed parts of the fixtures of the Grade II listed building, and were included in the listing documentation. Owner Arthur Hazlerigg, whose ancestors have lived at Noseley Hall for centuries, sold the paintings for £270,000 as part of the £2.6m sale in order to pay for essential repairs to the house.
Robert Walker’s portrait of General Sir Arthur Hesilrige, painted in 1640 and acquired by the National Portrait Gallery for £70,000 at the sale, is not among the paintings being recalled.
