Incorporating a number of silver coins, the beaker is decorated to one side with the cityscape of Breslau shown from the south and to the other with the city’s coat of arms. The inscriptions read Salus Wratislavia (The well-being of Breslau) and Incrementu Familiae (To the increase of the family).
The coins adorning the body, cover and base of the beaker stem mostly from Saxony and Bavaria and show a variety of different portraits of German emperors, kings and counts, from a thaler of the elector John George I (1585-1656) to a Polish ducat of Frederick Augustus the Strong (1670-1733). The maker Johann Klinge was active from 1704-37. Most surviving works by him are ecclesiastical silver.
