Battersea Decorative Fair

Japonisme, western art inspired by Japanese art and design, is the theme of the next Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair in London’s Battersea. At the event, which runs from October 2-7, a showcase in the foyer focuses on pieces that reflect the influence of Japanese design on European interiors.

The spring edition of the Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair at Battersea Evolution in London hosts 150 exhibitors from across the UK and Europe.

Look around at any edition of the Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair and there will be dealers hastily rehanging and restocking empty spaces on their stands.

Among the 150 dealers at the upcoming Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair (January 23-28) is newcomer of sorts, Nic McElhatton, former head of Christie’s South Kensington.

The third and final Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair of 2017 produced some significant sales in decorative furniture and beyond. Many pieces ticketed for five-figure sums found buyers during the event’s six-day run (October 3-8).

At the start of October, London is in for a feeding frenzy as art collectors, curators and member of the trade descend on the city. This year, four major fairs open in the capital in the first week of October offering a huge selection of antiques, fine art, decorative and vintage.

Justin Evershed-Martin is the former director of Mallett who has launched a business specialising in 20th century decorative art and furniture. This week he exhibits at the Decorative Art Antiques and Textiles Fair in Battersea with a selection of privately sourced pieces all priced under £8000 (see right).

The next Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair runs from April 4-9 in London’s Battersea Park. The second of three fairs to take place in the Battersea Evolution Marquee, it follows a successful January edition.
