The dry transfer print of two fan-shaped leaves, taken by Penn in New York in 1990, was printed two years later in an edition of just 22.

Signed, dated and inscribed verso with the title Ginko Leaves and the number 16962, it had originally been acquired from the Pace-Macgill Gallery in New York - and had last been seen at auction at Christie's New York in 2006 - but more recently had hung in the Gloucestershire home of a long-established Sworders client.

It had failed to sell in the auctioneers' January sale when estimated at £80,000-120,000 (another work from this edition had sold in New York for $363,000) but, at the auction on October 13, bidders responded second time around to a lower guide of £20,000-30,000.

The buyer's premium was 22%.
