Pharrell Williams was among the 5000 visitors at Olympia preview day on June 18, along with regular fair goer and keen collector Bob Geldof, while at Masterpiece's preview on June 24, the aisles thronged with a record 8900 people, fighting it out for champagne but also spending big money.

At Masterpiece, Symbolic & Chase's enormous 114ct fancy vivid old-cut yellow diamond (with an "eight figure" price tag) was much admired, and during the preview the London jewellers sold a diamond and ruby Boucheron cuff for a seven-figure sum.

Meanwhile at Olympia, preview day sales included that by Haynes Fine Art of a significant painting by Welsh master, Kyffin Williams, for a figure in excess of £85,000.

Next year, late June looks to be even busier, as Brian and Anna Haughton told ATG that they plan to move the dates of their Art Antiques London fair to coincide with Masterpiece.

A full review of Olympia and Masterpiece will appear in a future issue of ATG's weekly print publication.
