In Queen’s Street and close to the Queen Street Mill, which was the last commercially powered textile mill in Europe, closing in 1982 and now a museum, is the Kings Mill. Part of this former textiles mill is now the Kings Mill Antiques Centre.
Said Linda Heuer: “We have three units at the centre with some 30 dealers selling antiques and collectables there, and we are thinking of taking a fourth. As something new, we started holding monthly antiques fairs in the warehouse at the back of the mill in February with around 20 dealers there. It’s been so successful that we’re thinking of holding auctions too.”
The next Kings Mill Antiques Fair is on Sunday, September 24.

THROUGHOUT the 19th century, Burnley was one of the world’s largest producers of cotton, with many mills built alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Just north of the town, Harle Syke became the most important weaving village in Lancashire.
