Job Title: Decorative Arts Curator & International Client Development Manager

We are a specialist retail gallery. We also provide bespoke services on behalf of our clients, including sourcing specific items; purchasing and selling both privately and at auction; examining and appraising and advising on acquisitions for collections; cataloguing and researching and an in-house interior design service. We are looking for a Decorative Arts Curator & International Client Development Manager to work directly with the owner and CEO of the business, assisting with all of the above and developing and promoting ideas for future growth, exhibitions and displays. The successful applicant with have experience working with international clients and have a particular interest and experience of working with the US market, as well as good curatorial and research experience.

Job Description (Main duties and responsibilities):

Working with the owner and CEO, the successful applicant will:

• Provide direct assistance to CEO inassessment and selection of 18th century decorative arts for leading London based decorative arts retailer

• Catalogue, process, and research 18th century decorative arts collection, • Research, write, and publish articles on 18th century decorative arts for print publication and online marketing

• Oversee and manage the restoration and conservation projects, manage adequate storage facilities and maintain gallery displays

• Manage existing client database, develop and negotiate sales alongside CEO

• Identify opportunities for sales development in international markets, particularly in America to both private and institutional clients with interest in 18th century decorative arts

• Identify purchasing/acquisition opportunities both for stock and for clients both in the UK and abroad, principally US

• Visit clients both in the UK and abroad and manage their collections both in buying and selling , as well as maintenance, restoration, and cataloguing

• Develop and update the gallery website alongside other online selling portals, including all social media platforms

• Develop and curate exhibitions on 18th century decorative arts with appropriate research and source material

• Oversee and run all aspects of annual art fairs including logistics, stand design, shipment, and attendance

Specialist knowledge in 18th century decorative arts; ideally with a Masters degree in 18th century decorative arts plus related academic research  

• At least two years of experience with commercial art dealer in English decorative arts

• Existing network of private clients and institutional groups to include both interior designers and museums, with particular emphasis on the US market, including private collectors and museums

• Excellent sales record gained within a similar organisation

• Experience in digital marketing and online platform development for decorative arts with proven sales record using related platforms

• Experience planning, organising, and achieving sales at leading international art fairs (ie, TEFAF, Masterpiece, Winter Show, Palm Beach)

• Work experience in museums or public art institutions carrying out research, cataloguing, and cultivating client networks

• Auction experience cataloguing English decorative arts  

• Public speaking experience on 18th century English decorative arts
