Ewbank’s are seeking an experienced valuer to join our busy saleroom, based just outside Guildford in Surrey. This job offers exceptional opportunities for the successful applicant to join a busy expanding business at a senior level. Ewbank’s LLP was set up by in 1990 and has a current saleroom turnover of over £5M per annum holding about 60 sales every year. We are Members of SOFAA.

Your primary duty will be Head of valuations for the Antiques department. You will be tasked to determine what property may be appropriate for sales and catalogue items for auction, entering details in the firm’s database. You may need to travel to acquire property and negotiate estimated values, reserves and fees earned by the company. You will be required to encourage new business opportunities for the departments as well as maintain and support the ongoing development of a database of customers – both buyers and sellers. The role will involve liaising with the Partners, Saleroom Manager and other valuers to continually improve the business. You will be responsible for the coordination of all sale processes and requirements and take a prominent role in ensuring that the highest standard of ethics and expertise is maintained for all lots offered.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic go getter, with a sound knowledge in all aspects of antiques valuation and appraisal. You should have extensive saleroom experience, a network of working relationships with established collectors and other buyers with an ability and willingness to add the company’s contacts.

You should have a minimum of three / five years previous experience with an auction house, including previous experience as a valuer and auctioneer. Equally you will possess excellent attention to detail, interpersonal and communication skills with clients, both written and oral. Must be able to use Microsoft office packages, knowledge of Microsoft Navision an advantage. Additionally, the ability to work as part of a team is essential. A full UK driving licence is required.
