Tad Smith

A graduate of Harvard Business School and Princeton University, Tad Smith was appointed president and chief executive of Sotheby’s in March 2015. Previously he held a number of senior roles at large media companies including The Madison Square Garden Company, Cablevision Systems Corporation and Reed Elsevier Group.

In October 2019, he was replaced by Charles F Stewart but with Smith becoming a shareholder of Sotheby's and acting as a senior adviser to Stewart.

Sotheby’s has appointed Charles F Stewart as chief executive officer. Joining from communications and media company Altice USA, he takes over from Tad Smith who has served as CEO since 2015.
