Thangka leads Dreweatts' Asian art sale at £450,000

Dreweatts achieved their highest price to date in the Asian art market when an 18th century Sino-Tibetan thangka depicting the Milarepa cult sold for £450,000 at the firm’s first sale marking their participation in the Asian Art in London initiative.

Matteo Sellas guitar strikes a £48,000 chord

There was a great deal of international interest, particularly from institutions, when this five-course baroque guitar by Matteo Sellas of Venice, from the second quarter of the 17th century, was offered at Gardiner Houlgate’s September 19-20 sale in Bath.

Salvo Fair booms into Berkshire

The annual Salvo Fair at Knebworth has been bounced off its long-established spot at the Hertfordshire estate this year by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in concert. So organisers Thornton Kay and his daughter Ruby Hazael have moved their three-day show to the Stubbings Estate, just off the M4 at Maidenhead in the neighbouring county of Berkshire.

Domenichino’s St John saved for the nation

CONSIDERED the finest work by the Italian Baroque master Domenico Zampieri, Il Domenichino (1581-1641), in private hands, this painting of St John the Evangelist has been saved for the nation. It has gone on display in the National Gallery's Baroque rooms.

English-period Ricci in Washington
