In January, Walpole Antiques of Greenwich suffered two thefts in the space of a week that may well be connected. In the first incident a Chinese export mantel clock valued at more than £5000 was taken.
In a more serious incident, an equestrian bronze of the Duke of Wellington on his mount Copenhagen was forcibly taken a few days later on Saturday, January 22.

A smartly dressed man with glasses, right, entered the shop just after 5pm, went to the back of shop and then tried to distract the member of staff on duty. Another man then entered the premises and picked up the bronze. A struggle followed as the member of staff tried to prevent the thieves from leaving. However, they were able to get away through Greenwich market with the small statue.
