It was however identified as a folio work in two volumes dated 1771, and would thus appear to be a much more desirable second edition of Miller's Figures of the Most Beautiful, Useful and Uncommon Plants described in the Gardener's Dictionary, which among its 300 coloured engraved plates features the work of Richard Lancake (155), J.S. Mueller (83), Georg Dionysius Ehret (16) and includes some unattributed plates, three of which may have been based on drawings by American botanists and plant hunters, John Bartram and William Houston.
I have no idea if the New Hampshire copy was complete, and am intrigued by the fact that the plate illustrated right appears to have an autograph caption and bear the date 1785, but in any event it made a nonsense of the $400-600 estimate and went on to sell for $14,000 (£7700).
