Two appointments have been announced in the wake of the join up between Australian auctioneers Mossgreen of Melbourne and Webb’s of Auckland in New Zealand.

The new operation known as Mossgreen-Webb’s will be led by CEO Paul Sumner, who started Mossgreen in 2004, and he announced last week that Sophie Coupland and Briar Williams will be running the art department.

Sophie Coupland will head the art department for Mossgreen-Webb’s. The daughter of founders Peter and Ann Webb, she joined Webb’s in the early 90s and was the director of fine art from 1998-2014. Briar Williams joins Mossgreen-Webb’s as art department manager. For many years, she ran the art department of Australian auction house Leonard Joel.

Coupland and Williams will head the team of art specialists based at Mossgreen-Webb’s in Auckland.

Alison Gillatt joins Sheffield saleroom

Alison Gillatt has joined Sheffield Auction Gallery as senior valuer for their new West Riding Division.

Gillatt joined the Leeds branch of Phillips Auctioneers in 1979, which later became Bonhams. She ran the European and Oriental Ceramics and Decorative Arts Department for the north of England until 2007 when the Leeds saleroom closed. After that she continued at Bonhams Leeds office in a valuation role.


Vicki Wonfor becomes director at Roseberys

Roseberys London have promoted Vicki Wonfor to the role of director. She has been with the West Norwood company for seven years.

As well as continuing to work with the paintings and prints department she is currently focusing on business development with particular emphasis on specialist and online auctions.

Phillips have appointed Silvia Coxe Waltner as vice president, regional representative, for the Northwest region of the US.

Waltner’s experience includes many years at Christie’s, where she was head of the Latin American Paintings Department in New York from 1986-97.





Freeman’s appoint Nicholas Nicholson

Nicholas Nicholson

Nicholas Nicholson has joined Freeman’s as senior vice president, division head of American & European Furniture & Decorative Arts. He will also lead the English & Continental Furniture & Decorative Arts department.

He comes to the Philadelphia auction house with more than 20 years’ experience, including at Christie’s Continental Furniture and Decorative Arts department in the early 1990s and then their New York Russian Department.
