The new galley – focusing on 20th century and Contemporary works – is targeting an international clientele. “We need a presence in London and this is the right time. The market is on the move and the American market is certainly on the up for us,” said senior partner Tony Haynes.

The opening follows a renovation project at 70 Pimlico Road that cost nearly £500,000 and the purchase of almost £5m of additional stock, including 14 works by Andy Warhol.

The Cotswolds gallery will continue to focus on earlier paintings. Haynes says that he had trouble reaching the market for newer works from a location outside the “fence” of the M25.

Father-and-son team Clive and Paul Toberman have been hired as frontmen for the new space. Clive joins the team from Somlo Antiques in the Burlington Arcade and Paul from the sales team at ATG.

The gallery will have its soft opening during the Pimlico Road Association drinks party on June 28, with an official opening event to follow.
