The auction, to be staged on December 8 and 9, features paintings that have been consigned from an anonymous European collection and is expected to make in the region of €10m-15m.

Among the European and American artists represented are Picasso, Gino Severini , Joan Miro, Douanier Rousseau, Fernard Leger and, from more recent periods, Andy Warhol, Anselm Kiefer, Sam Francis, Christo, Niki de Saint-Phalle and Arman.

The Jawlensky, in watercolour and ink on paper laid on cardboard, is monogrammed and numbered 136, has a signature stamp lower right and dates from the early 1920's.

It last came under the hammer at Ketterer Kunst in Munich in 2008 and carries an estimate of €250,000-300,000 in the sale next week.
