The collection of Louis Grandchamp des Raux will be sold by Sotheby's in association with Artcurial and the painting specialists Cabinet Eric Turquin at Sotheby's Paris rooms on March 26. Around 50 paintings are expected to realise over €5m.

Assembled over a 25-year period, the works are principally drawn from the French and North European schools, including such well-known names as François Boucher, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Hubert Robert and Jean-Baptiste Greuze.

There are also some rare works by women painters such as this 3ft 10in x 3ft 2in (1.2m x 96cm) portrait of a seated woman with a violin, above, painted in 1773 by Anne Vallayer-Coster (estimate €300,000-400,000).

Highlights from the collection will be on view in New York from January 24-28 during Master Paintings Week.
