They will take place annually in London, with the viewing held alongside their November auction of Modern & Post-War British Art. A separate viewing will be in Edinburgh.

The firm's British & Irish art sales will end and be re-categorised as auctions of Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite and British Impressionist Art. They will hold them twice a year, in July and December, while separate Irish art sales run once a year, in October.

The reinstatement of stand-alone Scottish sales follows the scrapping of Sotheby's annual sales at Gleneagles in 2009 after 40 years.

They subsequently staged biannual sales of Scottish art in London until these were merged into the British & Irish format.

Sotheby's are also relocating their office in central Edinburgh and will release further details soon.
