The picture has come from a private source in mid-Wales and is signed with the artists initials and indistinctly dated either 1626 or 1620.

Entitled Dives and Lazarus, it is very similar to another known work by the Heusden-born artist Interior with Lazarus that was sold in Amsterdam in 1824.

According to a Dutch academic who is providing important information to the auctioneers, it was painted by Van Delen himself but some figures and features were likely derived from works by Frans Francken the Younger, Dirck Hals and

Bartholomeus van Bassen.

It is being offered with a 'refer to department' estimate.
