This gilt-metal mounted mahogany serpentine commode with a 3ft x 11in (91 x 28cm) crossbanded top, distinctive shaped apron and bold leafy handles c.1760 is very much in the manner of the royal cabinetmakers William Vile and John Cobb of London.
It had some signs of restoration but sold comfortably within hopes of £80,000-100,000 at £85,000.
Meanwhile, a 5ft 5½in (1.66m) high by 3ft 5½in (1.05m) wide George III Chinese Chippendale giltwood pier glass c.1775, well carved with flowers and leafy scrolls with a shepherd beneath a pagoda to the crest and the apron with a pair of sheep flanked by hounds, sold at £44,000.
At the sale on July 2, both pieces sold to London buyers.
The buyer's premium was 15%.
