Tryon Gallery, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, is well known as a specialist in sporting and wildlife art and also incorporates a maritime subsidiary, Royal Exchange Art Gallery.
So it seems a good fit with Rountree Fine Art, which was established in 2009 by Jamie Rountree after ten years working for Christie's and Bonhams, and, unusually for a gallery nowadays, specialises in sporting and maritime paintings from the 18th century to the Second World War.
The new company will deal in traditional and contemporary sporting and maritime art and will be based at Tryon Gallery's current premises in St James's Gallery at 7 Bury Street, as Jamie gives up his space on Fulham Road in Chelsea. Oliver Swann, who has run Tryon Gallery since 1995, plans to retire in five years' time when Jamie will take over the entire business.
Travel Exhibition
Every year, Adrian Pett of Darnley Fine Art holds an exhibition of original artwork for travel posters at his gallery at 18 Milner Street in Chelsea. This year the exhibition runs until May 31 and includes original, evocative 20th century works, produced for the railways and extolling the delights of exploring Britain by train.
Artists include William McDowell (1888-1950), Gerald Spink (fl.1920-40) and Sir Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), who painted the oil on canvas Parliament from the Thames. The signed 2ft 6in x 3ft 9in (76cm x 1.14m) work is priced at £50,000.
