Silverware to be sold to support Durham memorial

21 March 2013Written by ATG Reporter

Over 130 lots of silverware that once graced the tables of the Durham Light Infantry’s officers’ mess are to be sold at auction to raise funds for a new bronze memorial statue for Durham.

Consigned to Anderson & Garland's sale on March 27 in Westerhope, the group includes punch bowls, meat skewers, posy vases, salvers and sets of knives and forks mostly from the 3rd and 4th Militia Battalions of the DLI.

This 14½in (37cm) Victorian claret jug with dragon handle by Joseph, Albert, Horace & Ethelbert Savory, London 1883 is estimated at £1000-1500.
